What Do I Need?
We recommend you have enough nappies for 2 days as this gives you the best use out of your washing machine and means you aren't having to wash every day! For a newborn baby, this is around 20 nappies and 4 covers. As your baby grows, they will need fewer nappy changes, so for a baby at around 6 months old, you may only need 15 nappies and 3 covers.
Ongoing purchases include paper liners and nappy sanitizer, although you could use reusable fleece liners (either bought, or simply made by cutting up a piece of fleece).
You will also find it useful to have one or may be two lidded buckets, and a nappy bucket mesh (like a large laundry bag that you put in your bucket and use to transfer all your nappies into the machine in one go) and a reusable waterproof bag (for storing used nappies when you are out).
Washable wipes are something else you may like to consider purchasing as these also save you money and reduce rubbish production. You could make your own by cutting up old towels/flannels/muslins.
You may need booster pads when your baby is older, or for use during the night. You could make your own by cutting up old towels, or depending on your choice in nappy, the smaller sizes may have boosters that can be used in larger sizes when you need them.
